Dragon Nation-Reminder of Important Events for 8th Grade

Hello 8th grade Dragon Nation!

Today, May 5th - All 8th graders will be taking the STAAR Science test.
Friday, May 6th - All 8th graders will be taking the STAAR Social Studies test.
If students are not successful in passing the STAAR test in any area, they will be required to complete 30 hours of Accelerated Instruction during the Summer in order to ensure they will be successful in 9th grade.    Summer Accelerated Instruction will be July 11th-22nd from 9:00-12:00 each day.

Just a few friendly reminders and pieces of information about the upcoming 8th-grade events:

FRIDAY, MAY 6th - Hawaiian Falls permission slips and money are due to Miss Richmond by this day.  There are 2 permission slips that need to be signed.  If a student does not have those, they can get them from their history teacher.  If the permission slips and $28 are not turned in by Friday, the student may not attend Hawaiian Falls.  If a student is planning to bring the money on Friday but they are absent, someone will need to bring the money and permission slips to the school.  There are no exceptions because a final number has to be given to Hawaiian Falls.

FRIDAY, MAY 13th - 8th grade formal will be held in the Durham Cafeteria from 7pm-9pm.  Since this is a formal, students may not wear jeans, t-shirts, shorts, sweats, slides, etc.  The dress code was reviewed in their history class this week.  If a student has a question about their outfit, they may reach out to Miss Richmond.  Students are expected to be at school all day on that Friday.  If they are absent for any part of the day, they must have a doctor’s note.  A handwritten letter will not be accepted.  If they are absent for any part of the day and do not have a doctor’s note, they will not be able to attend the dance.  Any questions about that can be addressed by Mr. Holt.

TUESDAY, MAY 17th - 8th Grade trip to Hawaiian Falls. The dress code was reviewed in their history class this week.  If a student has a question about their outfit, they may reach out to Miss Richmond.  Students who are attending will be provided with more information next week.  Any 8th-grade student who purchased a yearbook will be receiving their yearbook after we return from Hawaiian Falls.

If you have any questions about these events, please reach out to Miss Richmond (richmondk@lisd.net).

Thank you!
