Students in 6th and 7th grade have an upcoming STAAR-like benchmark in science and social studies which contains material covered this year and/or last year. The purpose of the benchmark is to monitor student progress, identify gaps in instruction, and prepare students for the 8thgrade science and social studies STAAR tests. This benchmark will be given around mid-May.
As an incentive, students that score an 85 or above may choose to use this grade as their semester exam grade. If a student does not score an 85 or above, they are required to take the semester exam. Students that score an 85 or above may choose to take the semester exam and the teacher will count the higher of the two exams.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s science or social studies teacher.
