DeLay Middle School’s Herrera Named Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/Cross Timbers Family YMCA April Student of the Month
April 23, 2019 — DeLay Middle School eighth-grader Mirley Herrera has been selected as Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce’s April Student of the Month — the eighth honoree of the 2018-2019 school year.
Those who know Herrera best said she is a fantastic student who is bright, kind, funny, compassionate and full of personality. Herrera consistently goes above and beyond, which is evident in being a member of DeLay Middle School’s ‘A’ Honor Roll. She also sets an example by being involved in tennis, orchestra and Science Club.
Herrera is known for helping others, especially younger students and new students. If there is an opportunity to volunteer in or outside of school, she is there. Throughout her busy schedule, Herrera always make time for her friends.
“I feel very honored to be named Student of the Month,” Herrera said. “I didn’t expect this because sometimes I can be one of the quieter kids in class. I always try to help others and not cause any trouble.”
Herrera accepted the award, which is sponsored by the Cross Timbers Family YMCA, on April 23 at the Chamber’s partnership luncheon held at Courtyard by Marriott. Cross Timbers Family YMCA Executive Director Jason Walter and Chamber Board Chair Dan Irvin made the presentation. Herrera was joined at the event by DeLay Middle School Principal Jim Baker, teacher Chris Carter, Secretary Arianna Villarreal, and Lewisville ISD Assistant Chief of Schools Andy Plunkett.
