LISD:60 - Harvey's Haven

DeLay will soon open its campus kindness store, Harvey's Haven, to students.

One year after being featured on The Drew Barrymore Show, DeLay Middle School is nearly set to open the doors to its kindness store.

The store, spearheaded by former principal Charde Dockery, is designed to reward students by allowing them to “purchase” items with points earned through positive actions and behavior. Dockery, during her appearance on Drew Barrymore’s daytime talk show, was surprised with a $30,000 donation from Texas Health Resources in collaboration with Albertsons. Omaha Steaks donated an additional $10,000 to the project.

DeLay students were tasked with determining a name for the soon-to-be-opened store. While many names were suggested, it was William Daly’s eighth-grade advisory class that won out with Harvey’s Haven. The alliterative name stems from DeLay’s mascot, Harvey the Harvester.

DeLay administration hopes to have the final pieces of the store in place by the end of the spring semester so that it will be open for business during the 2022-23 school year.
