LISD Earns State’s Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating

Nov. 13, 2018 — Resource Stewardship Earns District “A” for Superior Achievement

First Rating 2018 Resource Stewardship is one of Lewisville ISD’s Four Cornerstones, the principles upon which the district builds its approach to education, providing limitless opportunities for all students to thrive in a future they create.

One objective measure of the district’s commitment to Resource Stewardship, and the core value of being good stewards of taxpayer dollars, is its “A” rating for “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ School FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas). The Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of LISD’s financial management and reporting. LISD has achieved the FIRST rating consecutively for the last 18 years.

“We are proud to earn an ‘A’ rating again,” LISD Chief Financial Officer Mike Ball said. “This rating shows how our schools are accountable not only for student learning, but also for being great stewards with taxpayer dollars.”

About School FIRST Ratings
The primary goal of School FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system.

The Texas Education Agency assigned one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being “A” for “Superior Achievement,” followed by “B” for “Above-Standard Achievement,” “C” for “Standard Achievement” and “F” for “Substandard Achievement.”

This is the 18th year of School FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas), a financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999 and amendments under House Bill 5, 83rd Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2013.
