LISD Middle Schools Continue Kindness Wave
All 15 Lewisville ISD middle school campuses – Arbor Creek, Briarhill, Creek Valley, DeLay, Downing, Durham, Forestwood, Griffin, Hedrick, Huffines, Killian, Lakeview, Lamar, McKamy and Shadow Ridge – held “Kindness Week” on Oct. 7-11. It was the second consecutive year the schools followed the high schools’ lead and devoted an entire week to the district’s kindness initiative.
“Kindness Week is dedicated to creating a ripple of kindness across all middle schools in LISD,” LISD Assistant Chief of Schools Leigh Ann Lewis said. “It’s as easy as starting with a, ‘Hi,’ smile, or compliment to ignite conversations and a feeling of happiness.”
Kindness Week was again set into motion by LISD Middle School Kindness Convocation. The second annual event was held Oct. 1 at Leo C. Stuver Auditorium. Hundreds of students attended and high schoolers from Flower Mound, Hebron, Lewisville, Marcus and The Colony served as guest speakers.
Kindness Week featured students, as well as staff members, participating in theme days (dressing up in purple, orange, pink, yellow and green) and challenges (greeting everyone at the front door, distributing ‘pay it forward’ compliment cards, sending daily kindness text messages, etc.).
“We all need to remember that kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give; we just have to take the time and be intentional about our actions and words to one another,” Lewis said.
