Lewisville ISD’s Newest Teachers Ready for 2024-25 School Year

At LISD’s ‘New Hire U’ event, we asked teachers how they were prepared to welcome everyONE for the school year.

New members of the LISD family were officially welcomed to the district at the annual LISD New Hire Week. The event, organized by the LISD Professional Learning Department, is the official kick-off for employees starting their journey with our district.

Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp started the week with an introduction to new staff, introducing them to the mission and vision of our district and her hopes for the 2024-25 school year. Throughout the week new hires heard from district leadership, representatives, department heads and collaborated with one another to develop effective teaching strategies.

As their week came to an end, we asked several new teachers to tell us what the 2024-25 theme of “everyONE” meant to them ahead of the school year. Here’s what they had to say:

Yazmine Mumme – 1st grade at Peters Colony

“[EveryONE means] making sure that I’m there for the students, and everyONE is there for everyONE else, whether it’s another teacher, a student or a family. I want to show that even though I’m new that I’m there for everyONE, too.”

Drake Dudley – Business and Finance at Flower Mound High School

“It really speaks to being a part of the community and that everyONE is supportive of one another and realizing that everyone is in it for the same goal of making sure students succeed.”

Sydney Demski and Trevor Oates - Athletics at Arbor Creek Middle School

“LISD is a great spot, and you’ll always have someone wherever you are. EveryONE is going to work together and there’s help everywhere and it’s a great community to live and work in.”

“When you look across LISD you see a lot of teachers and coaches who have been here for 20+ years and it shows that this is a place that you want to stay because everyONE around you is so close, works together well and respects each other. That’s what it takes to build culture in a school and a school district.”

Nathan Davis – Orchestra Director at Durham

“In an orchestra, every individual player matters, it’s all about everyone working as a team. We nurture everyONE as an individual student first, to show them that they have the potential to be amazing, then bring them together with all of their strengths and talents to create something wonderful.”

Taylor Narrell – 1st grade at Heritage Elementary

“[EveryONE] means involving the community – family, teachers, staff, everyONE to support our students. I want to communicate as well as I can to make sure that every student and their families know that I’m prioritizing them and respecting them as people in my classroom always.”

Chandler Valencia – Video Game Design and Game Programming at TECC-East

“It takes everyONE to work together to give the students the best opportunities that they can have. I’m a piece of that entire pie and I’m going to do my part.”

These new teachers recently joined over 6,000 of their fellow Lewisville ISD teachers at staff at the 2024-25 Staff Convocation, presented by DATCU. CLICK HERE to see more from the kickoff event.
