LISD Stuffs the Pantry

Students and staff support the community this holiday season.

This year, Lewisville ISD is proud to announce that its annual Stuff the Pantry Food Drive raised more than 60,000 pounds of food and all proceeds went to Christian Community Action (CCA), LovePacs, North Texas Food Bank, Metrocrest Services and MetroRelief food pantries.

"The food donated by LISD will help ensure the families CCA serves have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner," Christian Community Action Pantry Supervisor Juan Munguia said. "CCA truly appreciates all the LISD personnel and students who worked so hard to help others in need this year. We couldn't do what we do without you!"

To add a little friendly competition to this year's drive, schools were encouraged to keep track of the number of items donated. Most items were worth one point, but pie filling, potatoes, canned fruit, vegetables, evaporated milk and yams were worth two points.

"Our National Junior Honor Society coordinates the Stuff the Pantry Food Drive," Downing Middle School Principal Curt Martin said. "Classes compete for points, and students participate in fun dress-up days when they contribute food. We even have a faculty donated 'pantry for the pantry' where students who may not be able to contribute food to the drive can take items, so they can participate with their class. The canned food drive gives our students the chance to think about others and contribute to the broader community."
