Vickery Elementary’s Phelps Named Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/Cross Timbers Family YMCA January Student of the Month
Vickery Elementary fifth-grader Richard Phelps has been selected as Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/Cross Timbers Family YMCA January Student of the Month — the fifth honoree of the 2019-2020 school year.
Those who know Phelps best say he is a hard-working and bright student, but shines even brighter with his leadership abilities. Each day Phelps raises the United States and Texas flag outside, as well as helps with car duty – eagerly opening doors, greeting parents and welcoming students. He is mature beyond his years – so much so that the school feels like they have an extra staff member. Phelps’ behavior is excellent and he is respected by his peers. His grades also reflect his hard work in class.
It is for these reasons and more Phelps has been selected as the January Student of the Month.
“It feels good to be named Student of the Month,” Phelps said. “Each day at school, I try to give it 110 percent, if not more. My family and friends have a lot to do with that, so I am very thankful for them.”
Phelps accepted the award, which is sponsored by the Cross Timbers Family YMCA, on Jan. 28 at the Chamber’s partnership luncheon held at Courtyard by Marriott. Cross Timbers Family YMCA Executive Director Jason Walter and Chamber Board Chair Ann Pape made the presentation. Phelps was joined at the event by his father, Richard Sr., and VES Principal Adam Gray.
