Lewisville ISD’s Inaugural HBCU College Fair set for Feb. 1

More than 200 students from around the district plan to attend event at Marcus High School 9th Grade Campus.

HBCU Jan. 24, 2019 – Lewisville ISD’s inaugural HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) College Fair is set for Friday, Feb. 1 from 9-11:15 a.m. at Marcus High School 9th Grade Campus. More than 200 students – juniors and seniors – from around the district plan to attend. LISD will provide transportation.

Over 20 schools are scheduled for the event (full list below) and will be recruiting students, as well as offering scholarships. Microsoft and Denton County Chapter of The Links, Inc. will also have representatives in attendance.

The keynote speaker will be Chelle Luper Wilson, who is International Secretary of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is an alumna of Langston University (Okla.). The morning will also feature a recent graduate panel discussing campus life, Greek life, student organizations and alumni experiences.

“The HBCU College Fair is an excellent opportunity for our students,” LISD Assistant Chief of Schools Andy Plunkett said. “Lewisville ISD graduates are highly sought out by universities and colleges all over the nation. We have a wonderful reputation of producing top-notch students who perform extremely well at that level.”

College and university representatives at the event will be recruiting students, as well as offering scholarships.

Partners for the HBCU College Fair include the Marcus High School Black History Club and Tau Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. Former LISD Board of Trustees member and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. member Vernell Gregg has been instrumental in the creation and planning of the event.
