The Holiday Spirit Shines Bright at Lewisville Learning Center

UNT's Social Work Program hosts holiday festival for LISD School Age Parent Program

SAPP-Holiday Festival-2018 Dec. 21, 2018 — ’Tis the season of giving! At the end of November, the University of North Texas (UNT) College of Health and Public Service's Social Work Program hosted a holiday festival for Lewisville ISD’s School Age Parent Program (SAPP). SAPP provides pregnant and parenting teen mothers in LISD the support and resources needed to either remain in school or return to school to finish their high school education.

UNT’s social work students called themselves the UNT Advocates for SAPP and raised nearly $1600 to be used toward scholarships, baby items and caps and gowns for those in need. The students also collected baby items for SAPP’s closet.

The festival, which featured many activities, was held at the Lewisville Learning Center where SAPP is housed.

“At the festival, they had a resume writing area, hot cocoa, cookie decorating and games,” SAPP Coordinator Mireya Usery said. “There were also photographers who were taking pictures of students in caps and gowns.”

Events like the SAPP Holiday Festival help create close bonds between LISD students, their families and the community.
