Monster Masterpieces at Prairie Trail ES & Marcus HS

Marcus students created sculptures based on the drawings of Prairie Trail first graders.

Prairie Trail ES and Marcus HS students aren’t scared of monsters. In fact, they worked together to bring monsters to life!

Earlier this school year, Prairie Trail art teacher Katrina Bartel gave an assignment to her first grade students - “to draw monsters of all shapes, sizes, and silliness.” Her students did just that, using colors and shapes to bring their imaginary creatures to life.

Bartel then reached out to Marcus High School teacher Josh Fletcher to see if his students wanted to partner on taking this project a step further. He agreed, and a handful of Marcus’ art students selected drawings to recreate in sculpture form. Take a look at some of the sculptures below.

To see the monster-inspired artwork in person, visit the student art exhibit at the Lewisville Grand Theater before July 1. We’re so proud of these two groups of students coming together to bring these monster masterpieces to life!
