All Smiles on Mill Street Elementary's First Day

Greeters from LISD, Lewisville High School and community line red carpet to cheer on students

MSE1 Mill Street Elementary opened its doors for the first time ever on Oct. 15, and did so with numerous supporters waiting on the inside.

Greeters from Lewisville ISD’s leadership team, Lewisville High School and the community lined the red carpet to create an electric atmosphere as students arrived for the 7:45 a.m. bell. It set the tone for a solid day of learning in the state-of-the-art, 118,762 square-foot facility – made possible by LISD's voter-approved 2017 Bond referendum – located at 601 South Mill Street in Lewisville.

MSE4 “It was incredible to have so many district and community leaders here to greet our students,” Mill Street Elementary Principal Susan Heintzman said. “It was also so exciting to have the Lewisville High School band, cheerleaders, drill team, athletes and student council here to welcome our students and show their Farmer Pride. I was truly overwhelmed with all the generosity!”

It was a day the Mustangs, whose official colors are purple, grey and white, will never forget.

“It was amazing to have all of our students and staff together for the first time,” Heintzman said. “The entire day was filled with awe.”

Mill Street Elementary houses more than 550 students, who previously attended the now-retired College Street Elementary campus, as well as Central Elementary. Since Aug. 13, the students have been attending school at those campuses.
