Peters Colony Elementary’s Rubio Named The Colony Chamber of Commerce/DATCU Credit Union April Student of the Month

Derek Accepts His Award April 24, 2019 — Peters Colony Elementary fifth-grader Derek Rubio has been selected as The Colony Chamber of Commerce/DATCU Credit Union April Student of the Month – the eighth honoree of the 2018-2019 school year.

Rubio is known as an all-around great student who takes ownership in his learning. He is a part of the dual language program and Gifted & Talented program as well as a member of the National Elementary Honor Society. As a student leader, Rubio served as the vice president for Peters Colony’s National Elementary Honor Society last school year, and this school year, he was voted to serve as president. Rubio is the model of an exceptional Peters Colony Panther.

"This was the greatest opportunity ever because not many students get named Student of the Month," Rubio said.

Rubio accepted the award, which is sponsored by DATCU Credit Union, on April 18 at the Chamber’s monthly luncheon, which was held at The Colony High School. DATCU Community Relations Coordinator Mary Jacoby and Chamber Board President David Peerson made the presentation. Rubio was joined at the event by his mother as well as Peters Colony Principal Toni Hall and teacher Debbie Reveles.
