Parkway Elementary students Helen Ramos and Levi Rodriguez, teacher Sandy Abney and Parkway were all recognized by the Lewisville Chamber at the Chamber's Event Center in Lewisivlle, Texas on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Exceptional Student of the Month — Levi Rodriguez
Parkway Elementary student Levi Rodriguez is a creative thinker and a kind friend. He especially enjoys learning new concepts in science and math and is curious about everything. He works hard and is eager to help others whenever he can. Whenever someone has a problem, Levi is quick to lend a hand.
Student of the Month – Helen Ramos
Parkway Elementary student Helen Ramos is such a sweet and intelligent girl. She is a hard worker and very creative. She puts her best effort into all her assignments. She is an especially strong writer and really enjoys making books and writing stories when she finishes her work. 
Teacher of the Month – Sandy Abney
Parkway Elementary first-grade teacher Sandy Abney has dedicated 18 years to Lewisville ISD having taught 1st -4th grades. Her passion lies in teaching first-graders how to demonstrate their learning in various ways. She encourages them to share and explain their thinking with peers—whether through speaking, writing, or using technology. She also helps them learn how to give and receive feedback, both positive and constructive. She strives to make lessons fun and engaging by incorporating themes like baseball and transforming the classroom to match. Students participate in themed activities to deepen their understanding of state standards. Her students also practice mindfulness in many ways. They learn to treat themselves and others with kindness, take mindful breaks by sitting quietly in yoga poses with calming breaths, and listen to classical music while working. In her classroom, they are more than students—they are family.
School of the Month – Parkway Elementary
Parkway Elementary school is a Title I school in the heart of Lewisville. They serve 600 students from kindergarten through 5th grade. Parkway is a dual language school, meaning students have the opportunity to learn content in both English and Spanish. They offer many extracurricular activities, including dance, soccer, basketball, coding/STEM, choir, and clubs. On campus, they have a gifted and talented program and special education services. Parkway is a special school, and loves its community.
