LISD Seeks Community Input to Rename Career Centers

Oct. 22, 2018

What would you call state-of-the-art facilities where students from across Lewisville ISD (LISD) attend classes ranging from auto collision to video game design, from architecture to pharmacy tech? That is the question the LISD Board of Trustees is asking, with a $500 Nebraska Furniture Mart gift certificate, donated to the district by Nebraska Furniture Mart to award the winning proposal.

The district is seeking an innovative name for its career centers to highlight the out-of-the-ordinary and award-winning Career and Technology (CTE) courses offered at Career Center East and Dale Jackson Career Center. With a new career center set to replace the current Dale Jackson Career Center in August 2020, which was approved by voters in the May 2017 Bond Election, the district is taking the opportunity to find a more descriptive name for both campuses. To submit an entry, please visit

Although all submissions will be considered, the district does not plan to name these facilities after a person, street or geographic area.

The deadline for entries is Dec. 14, 2018. The contest is open to LISD staff, students, parents and community members. If the winning name is submitted by multiple people, those people will be entered in a random drawing for one person to receive the gift card. There is no cash value provided in lieu of the Nebraska Furniture Mart gift certificate. Individuals are allowed to complete the form multiple times if they wish to submit more than one name.

LISD’s career centers serve students from across the district with unique advanced academic and career programs not available at the district’s five comprehensive high schools. A new career center to replace the current Dale Jackson Career Center was approved by voters in the May 2017 Bond Election. The new campus will be located near Lewisville High School Harmon and the Westside Aquatic Center in Lewisville.

Courses offered at these campuses include: Engineering/Manufacturing, Veterinary Tech, Building Trades, Health Sciences Audio/Video Film Production, Criminal Justice, Agriculture Science, Cosmetology, Information Technology, Hospitality, Collision Repair and Culinary Arts. Students in LISD CTE courses earn admission to prestigious universities and/or graduate with industry-leading certifications.
