November Principal's Message

Morningside Messenger

November 2018

A note from the Principal, Rita Bacque

Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,

It is November!!  Where does the time go?  Each year seems to fly by faster than the last!  I guess this teaches us not to let the possibility of making memories pass us by and to enjoy each and every day we have.

Our Morningside Family lost a valued member over the weekend.  Mr. Marv Blakey, former secretary, gained his angel wings on Sunday, Nov. 4th.  He was beloved by our staff and all those who crossed his path over the years.  He was not only our secretary, but our confidant, mentor, advisor, father figure, and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  However, we are confident he is dancing with his love, Jean, in heaven and no longer in pain.  Please keep Marv’s family in your thoughts.

Our Boosterthon Mustang Stampede Fun Run was a GREAT success this year in spite of the weather!  We had our “wrap-up” meeting last week and here are some statistics for the run.  Overall, we had 65% of our students registered on, which is a total of 242 of 375 students!  Of those 242 students, 219 students raised money for our campus!!!!  Last year we had 308 students who participated and earned money so this is a bit less than last year’s participation, but we still did well.   We were able to reach and receive donations from 36 states and 7 countries!  This is amazing work and I appreciate all the parents who used their social networking skills to reach these goals!  Although we extended our fundraising over the weekend after the fun run, we determined our top fundraisers based on the original closing date to be fair to those students.  Our top fundraisers were: 1st - Rylee Dill in Ms. Arnold’s class; and 2nd– Foster Bardin in Mrs. Stowe’s class.  They received additional prizes through PTA.  Rounding out the top 5 were: Bryson Green, Eshaanvi Govada and Evan Fall in that order.

We are still finalizing our income and getting online pledges completed, but preliminary results show we matched last year’s fundraising with about $13,000.00!  Thank you all so much for supporting our students and our campus!!!  A BIG Thank you to Jen Benavides, Amber Davenport and their Stampede team of ladies and gentlemen who helped to put our stampede together for our students!  Go Mustangs!

This week, we are collecting canned goods and non-perishable items for the North Texas Community Food Pantry (formerly Metro Relief). We are collecting specifically for Thanksgiving Baskets.  Therefore, if you would like to donate items such as stuffing mix, green beans, peas, corn, sweet potatoes, yams, canned fruit, cornbread mix, etc., it will be appreciated!  Please refer to the flyer I sent out last week which outlines their greatest needs. However, they will accept all donations.

Please continue to check our district and school websites for updates throughout the year.  All teachers have their own website unique to their class/grade level or group, which will be updated weekly throughout the year. There, you will be able to view information on what your child’s class is doing for the week, look up dates of interest, upcoming events, contact the teacher via email and basically remain “tuned-in” to school life.  Please check us out!  If you have trouble accessing the website or getting updated information, please let me know.

A copy of this Morningside Messenger/Principal’s Message will always be posted on our website in several places.  Each month’s letter will be archived as new letters are posted so you may still access previous information.

As a side note, we communicate a lot through Twitter.  We visit classrooms and tweet out what students are learning, special events and other specific (sometimes emergency) information. For example, one day when a bus was going to be late dropping off students in the afternoon, I tweeted out a quick note regarding that information.  Twitter is quick and easy and can be accessed easier on a phone than Skylert email and it’s available to me regardless of where I am in the building. Therefore, please get connected with us through Twitter as we can’t always get on our computers in cases of emergency or when/if the internet is down.
