Independence Elementary’s Huang Named Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/Cross Timbers Family YMCA October Student of the Month

Fifth-grader is second honoree of 2019-2020 school year.

IES3 Independence Elementary fifth-grader Evelyn Huang has been selected as Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/Cross Timbers Family YMCA October Student of the Month — the second honoree of the 2019-2020 school year.

Those who know Huang best say she leads by example and always goes the extra mile in academics and extracurricular activities. She is always kind and considerate to her teachers and peers, and can always be seen with a friendly smile. Huang excels as a fifth-grade dual language student, proudly represents her school as a member of the National Elementary Honor Society and shines on the school’s announcement crew. All of this is accomplished while being in the school bell choir and playing piano.

It’s for these reasons and more Huang was selected as the October Student of the Month.

"Being named Student of the Month is a truly an honor," Huang said. "I am thankful for my teachers at Independence Elementary and everyone who supports me each day."

Huang accepted the award, which is sponsored by the Cross Timbers Family YMCA, on Oct. 22 at the Chamber’s partnership luncheon held at Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound. Cross Timbers Family YMCA Executive Director Jason Walter and Chamber Board Chair Dan Irvin made the presentation. Huang was joined at the event by her mother, Nannie Boone, as well as Assistant Principal Cathy McAlister.
