Independence Elementary Named Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/DATCU October School of the Month
The campus is the second honoree of the 2019-2020 school year.
Independence Elementary (IES) has been selected as the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/DATCU Credit Union October School of the Month – the second honoree of the 2019-2020 school year.
IES was chosen because of its constant dedication, hard work and energy given toward student success, as well as successfully implementing Lewisville ISD’s Four Cornerstones.
IES, which is the largest elementary in Lewisville ISD with more than 900 students, thrives as a Dual Language and “Leadership Happens Here” school. Since school started this year, IES has welcomed Dallas Mavericks mascot “Mavs Man” to campus, hosted a community coffee talk and Parent University, and celebrated former students who were successful in a project that striped a road near campus and purchased speed limit signs. IES is also home to numerous clubs for students and proudly works with Independence Gardens.
IES continuously goes above and beyond to ensure students thrive in a future they create, which is why the campus was named October School of the Month.
“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce,” IES Principal Theodora Winslow said. “Our students, faculty and staff are dedicated to serving the community.”
IES Assistant Principal Cathy McAlister accepted the award Oct. 22 at the Chamber’s partnership luncheon held at Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound. DATCU Community Relations Coordinator Mary Jacoby and Chamber Board Chair Dan Irvin made the presentation. McAlister was joined by teacher Erin Swearengen and student Evelyn Huang.
