4th Nine Weeks Learning Pathway Change Form Opens Feb. 5

LISD middle school & high school families,
Beginning Friday, Feb. 5, families may change their student’s learning pathway using the learning pathway change form found in your Skyward Family Access account. If you do not intend to change your student's learning pathway, please disregard this email. You only need to access and submit this form if you are wanting to change your learning pathway for the 4th 9-week grading period, which begins March 9. Your change must be made by Feb. 19, two weeks prior to the start of the 4th nine weeks. If you do not complete the form, your child will continue in their current learning pathway. Campuses will be unable to accommodate requests that come in after the Feb. 19 deadline.

We also want to make you aware that TEA recently released guidance for spring STAAR assessments (grades 3-12) and is requiring students to take tests in person, including those on the virtual learning pathway. Families will be provided additional information in the coming weeks.

We have compiled a list of FAQs to help you be informed when making your learning pathway decisions. Please review this document carefully before directing any questions to your campus.
SCHEDULES
Important information to consider as it relates to schedules:
- If you change from one pathway to another, you can expect for your student’s schedule and their teachers to change, and it is possible the actual courses your child is enrolled in may change.
- Submitting your pathway change request as early in the window as possible will help your campus as they try to accommodate the changes. Remember, your campus will be unable to accommodate requests that come in after the deadline.
- Class changes will be made based on what classes are available and have space for additional students. There is not an opportunity for specific schedule requests.
- While our counselors strive for great customer service, they will not be able to respond to requests for information about what your child's schedule could be should you change your learning pathway. The campus administration will rebuild the campus schedule based on the pathway change requests, and schedule information will not be available until after that process is completed.
- Due to the complexity of scheduling students at the middle school and high school level, until all learning pathway change forms are completed, it is not possible for campuses to determine which classes may be available.

CLASS SIZES
A common question we receive is about class sizes, and why in-person classes are not smaller due to some students learning virtually from home. While there may be a smaller number of students learning in person, there are also fewer in-person teachers. Consequently, in-person class sizes are expected to be about the same size as usual.
It is important families submit pathway change forms as soon as possible as this allows campuses time to make staffing adjustments for both in-person and virtual learning. Each time the pathway change period opens, classes and teachers are shifted to accommodate requests, and it is possible a student may have a different teacher for the 4th nine weeks.
