HSVL Family Update | Sept. 4
Another week of virtual learning is in the books! We thank you for your continued support and patience as we establish some new routines for this fall semester. We are receiving many calls and emails from you, and want to let you know we appreciate the feedback you have provided. As we continue to work through these new experiences, please know we are dedicated to providing the best education possible to our students.
A few updates for you:
No School Monday, Sept. 7
Monday is a school holiday for staff and students. There are no Edgenuity assignments due on that day. We wish all of our students and families a happy Labor Day!
Class Schedule Starting Sept. 8
With in-person learning beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 8, WebEx session schedules will shift to align with the in-person schedule so that our Virtual Plus students have time to transition between Virtual and Virtual Plus classes. View the daily high school virtual learning schedule.
As a reminder, students are to participate in two 30-minute synchronous (live) WebEx sessions for each virtual class every week as scheduled by their teachers. Teachers choose which days their classes will have sessions. Unless a teacher communicates otherwise, a student can expect synchronous WebEx sessions to be held on the same days they’ve been occurring up to this point.
In addition to participating in these sessions, students are to complete asynchronous (independent) work for each class every school day. It is highly encouraged that students complete their asynchronous work during the regular school day to better receive assistance from their teachers if questions or problems arise. Teachers are also available to assist students before or after school by appointment and may request that students who are struggling or behind attend additional WebEx sessions.
Advisory falls from 10 a.m. to 10:25 a.m. Period 3 includes time for students and teachers to take a 30-minute break for lunch.
Edgenuity Technical Issues
All technical issues related to the Edgenuity program should be submitted through this form. For all other technical issues, please continue to email helpdesk@lisd.net or call 972-350-1833.
Skyward
Skyward remains the official gradebook and attendance record in LISD and is the best place to see your student’s overall grade. As with in-person learning, teachers make decisions about what officially counts for a grade in Skyward. If you have questions about a student’s grade in a virtual class, please contact your student’s virtual teacher.
Virtual Teacher Responsibilities
We have received questions about what our virtual teachers are doing when they’re not meeting with students in their regular WebEx sessions. When not in these sessions, some teacher responsibilities include: grading assignments and providing feedback, verifying attendance, reviewing student progress, communicating with students, conducting additional synchronous (live) WebEx tutorials or small group sessions as needed, contacting parents, collaborating with other staff members to support students, and more. Our virtual teachers are working harder than ever to support student success in the online learning environment.
Edgenuity Parent Access
We are currently in the process of activating the parent access feature in Edgenuity. This feature will allow parents/guardians to monitor their child’s progress in their virtual courses, similar to the observer status option available in Canvas. Once the parent access feature is available, an email with a unique activation code and set-up instructions will be sent to the parent email address on file in Skyward.
Fall Open House
Virtual students and families are invited to participate in their home campus’ Fall Open House. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the virtual learning environment and to meet your child’s virtual teachers. Please be on the lookout for communication from your home campus for more information on the date and format of open house.
