Lillie J. Jackson ECC’s Alphabet on the Runway
With upbeat runway music blaring and disco lights spinning, this Friday at the Lillie J. Jackson Early Childhood Center (LJJECC) was a fashionable place to be.
Students in the “Elephant” classes had been in a week-long A-B-C Boot Camp, learning the ins-and-outs of alphabet letters — their names, sounds and uses in different words.
Each day of the week, students were encouraged to complete different boot camp tasks such as bringing in items that start with their letter, completing a circle map, making a hat and creating a dog tag necklace.
For the culminating Friday fashion show, students showed off their handmade letter vests by walking a red carpet runway. An audience of parents, siblings and LJJECC staff cheered along as the letter models strutted their stuff.
It’s valuable student experiences like these that help students engage in their learning and feel a sense of belonging in their classrooms and schools.
