John Towels III Named Head Football Coach of Hebron Hawks

Towels III was most recently the head coach at Clear Brook High School.

Lewisville ISD announced on June 13 the appointment of John Towels III as the new head football coach at Hebron High School. Towels III currently serves as the head coach at Clear Brook High School, a position he has held for the last two seasons.

Towels III becomes the second football coach in HHS history and inherits a tradition-rich program. He takes over for recently-retired Brian Brazil, who led the Hawks program since its inception in 1999 and coached the team to a 2005 UIL Class 4A Division II State Championship.

“I’m honored and thrilled to be the next head football coach at Hebron High School and join the Lewisville ISD community,” Towels III said. “With my prior experiences in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, I’ve always admired the culture and competitiveness that Coach Brazil established at Hebron year in and year out. I look forward to continuing that tradition and success and getting to work with an outstanding group of student-athletes. I’m excited to get to Hebron and be involved in this great community that supports its students and school.”

Entering his 23rd year in education, Towels III has been the head coach at 6A Clear Brook High School in Friendswood, TX since 2020. Prior to his position at Clear Brook, Towels III led a top-ranked defense at Duncanville High School as the defensive coordinator where the Panthers made it to back-to-back 6A Division I state championship games. In his four years at Duncanville, the Panthers went 40-3 with Towels III as the defensive coordinator and won three undefeated district championships.

“Coach Towels III is known as a tremendous coach, person and program-leader,” LISD Athletic Director Cristie Liles said. “Coach Towels III has a history of coaching winning programs and building relationships with his players, staff, parents and community members. His work ethic and reputation are second to none. We are excited about the future of the Hebron football program with Coach Towels III leading the way.”

Prior to Clear Brook and Duncanville, Towels III spent time in Dallas ISD where he had his first head coaching job at Dallas Lincoln High School and was a positions coach at Thomas Jefferson High School. Other stops as a defensive coordinator include Irving Nimitz, Austin De Valle, and Manor High Schools where he made multiple postseason appearances with De Valle and Manor. While coaching at Manor HS, Towels III was also an assistant principal at Decker Middle School. Towels III was the secondary coach at Bastrop where he helped guide the team to the regional semi-finals.

Towels III got his coaching career started at Plano East High School from 2005-08 where he coached defensive backs and took the Panthers to the playoffs twice, including the regional finals. He was also the head track coach at Plano East in 2007. Towels III has taught high school English throughout his educational career.

“What an exciting time it is for Hebron football with the hiring of Coach Towels III,” HHS Principal Amy Boughton said. “With a career full of playoff experience at the highest level in the state, I know Coach Towels III will continue the legacy that Coach Brazil leaves and will be a great leader of young men and active in this great community. We are thrilled to have Coach Towels III in Hebron!”

A two-time graduate of Langston University, Towels III earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in urban education.
