April 18 Update

To the Class of 2020...

Hey Cougar, Farmer, Hawk, Jag, and Marauder seniors! You have been on my mind throughout the school closure, and I wanted to reach out and check on you. I know many of you may have heard on Friday Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced schools would remain closed for the rest of the school year.

This news is especially disappointing for seniors and their families, and I want you to know everyone in Lewisville ISD feels that disappointment, too. It is not the way we wanted the Class of 2020 to finish your senior year.

I’ve had the chance to visit with class leaders from each of our five high schools, and I’ve been impressed with the way our seniors are choosing to respond to this disruption of the spring semester. You are rising up and meeting your disappointment with perseverance, tackling challenges head on, and showing the ability to adapt to ever-changing circumstances beyond your control.

Your schools will send more information about cap, gown and cord pick up, prom possibilities, and other senior activities that may be rescheduled. It will be necessary to cancel some events, but we WILL have graduation. We know the University of North Texas will be unable to host the ceremonies, so we are exploring other options. The following dates have been established for June and July to allow you to plan:

**These are alternate dates. Graduating classes will not be split. If circumstances prohibit the June graduation dates, schools will move forward with the July dates. Additionally, each school will have its own graduation ceremony and will not be combined with another school**

THANK YOU for being brave. THANK YOU for being strong. And THANK YOU for showing what being part of the Class of 2020 is really about. You are leaders, and you are ready to move beyond the halls of LHS, HHS, FMHS, MHS and TCHS and THRIVE in a future YOU create.
