I am writing to let you know we are closing schools and adjusting our normal operations through April 3. I think we all need to be prepared for the possibility of it being longer. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation, and I want to thank you for your patience as we made this decision.
The health and safety of our students, staff, and the community members in each of the communities we serve is at the forefront of our minds as we prepare to navigate the uncharted waters ahead. We will continue monitoring COVID-19’s impact on our communities and depend on guidance from local and state health experts as we decide how to move forward.
I know you have many questions, and we will be sending more information to you soon. I can share with you the following as of right now:
District leaders are developing a framework to continue instruction for all students, through online resources and guided lessons, and we will share more specific plans by March 24.
Healthy meals will be available for pick up at specific locations for families who need them - more details to come.
The governor waived STAAR testing requirements for the year. I am grateful he took this step in the face of all the challenges our students, staff and communities are facing.
I know we are in uncertain times, and many questions remain. But in the face of that uncertainty, I am confident Lewisville ISD and the communities it serves will rise together to meet the needs of our students. I appreciate your support of our schools, our students, and our staff.
Kevin Rogers, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools Lewisville Independent School District
