Turnaround & Targeted Improvement Plans

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) assigns accountability ratings to all public schools primarily based on STAAR scores and recently released campus ratings for the 2024-2025 school year, along with ratings for the 2023-24 school year this August. The ratings had previously been held up in court litigation over concerns about how letter grades for campuses and districts were calculated.

According to an analysis from The Texas Tribune, the number of schools with at least two consecutive years of grades considered unacceptable by the TEA, based on D or F ratings, jumped from 64 in the 2022-23 school year to 348 in the 2024-25 school year. Overall, 82% of LISD schools have an acceptable rating, with 28 campuses increasing in their overall state rating from 2024 to 2025 and the district receiving a B rating.

We understand that our community has great love for each of their children’s schools and does not view the STAAR test as an accurate reflection of the overall education a student receives at our schools.  We also have a fundamental belief of our district that students are more than a test score.   While the state accountability system is a limited view of student achievement and performance, the state has continued to pass each legislative session with increased sanctions and requirements for increasing student performance on STAAR tests.

For schools that have received multi-years of unacceptable ratings based on STAAR, the district is required by the Texas Education Agency to create and implement comprehensive Turnaround Plans. While these long-term plans are required by the state, our immediate and most urgent focus remains this school year.

In Lewisville ISD, we believe continuous improvement informs and inspires future growth. The district is investing additional resources, providing instructional support, and partnering closely with staff at the campuses identified in our plans to ensure all students have the opportunity to grow and succeed.
