JUNE 2025

Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF)
Five students won big at the 2025 Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair, the world’s top STEM competition for high schoolers. Marcus High School students Samuel Skotnikov, Eeshaan Dev Prash-anth, and Chan-young Kim won 1st place in Biomedical Engineering and took home a top $50,000 award for their brain-controlled prosthetic leg. Marcus High School graduate Elliott Slaughter, a future MIT student, won 2nd place in Chemistry for her CO2 capture project. And Erin Nam Choi from Flower Mound High School earned a special award in Environmental Engineering for her work on reducing harmful P-FAS chemicals. 

UIL Academic State Meet
Students from Flower Mound and Hebron High Schools earned top honors at the 2025 UIL Academic State Meet. Flower Mound High School placed second overall in the school sweepstakes, and the FMHS Speech Team also brought home a second-place finish. Individually, Eliot Hong won second place in Ready Writing, and Poorvi Kumar took second in Persuasive Speaking. From Hebron High School, Elodie Hamm earned first place in Feature Writing. Each year, more than half a million students participate in UIL academic contests, which offer a chance to build on the skills they develop in the classroom. Congratulations students on your incredible accomplishments!

UIL State Theatrical Design Contest
Students from across the district earned top honors in the 2025 UIL State Theatrical Design Contest. From Flower Mound High School, Mackenzie Hall won first place in marketing, while Loralyn Brimer took second place in costume design. At Marcus High School, Emily Van Beveren, Tayren Reed, Teagan Reed, and Sawyer Telford earned third place in Group Design. This year’s contest challenged students across Texas to develop original concepts—incorporating innovative technology—for the production of Axoloris The Musical by Sean Mendelson. 

UIL One-Act Play State Meet
The Flower Mound High School Theatre Department recently earned the silver medal for their powerful performance of Wit at the UIL One-Act Play State Contest--one of the largest high school theatre competitions in the world. After weeks of auditions, table reads, and a demanding rehearsal schedule, FMHS rose through six competitive levels, ultimately becoming one of just eight schools in Texas to advance to the state finals. Several students also received individual honors: Kate Chenault was named to the All-Star Cast, Rex Kim earned Outstanding Technician, and Teagan Taylor received Honorable Mention for the All-Star Cast.

UIL 6-A Softball Championship 
Flower Mound High School Softball team had a remarkable season culminating in a journey to the state championship tournament, where they earned third place. The Jags, ranked 20th in the state of Texas, finished second in district with a 12 and 2 record and an overall record of 25 wins.

UIL 6-A Baseball Championship
Marcus High School Baseball team had a stellar season culminating in a journey to the state championship tournament, where they earned third place. The Marauders, ranked 9th in the state of Texas by Max Preps, finished first in district with a 11 and 3 record. 

National STEM Schools of Excellence
Congratulations to LISD STEM Academies at Creek Valley, Downing, Forestwood, and Hedrick middle schools, as well as Memorial Elementary for renewing their National Certificate for STEM School of Excellence from the National Institute for STEM Education! NISE not only recognizes STEM campuses, but also certifies teachers, schools, and districts through a coach-led, competency-based process. Educators build a portfolio that shows skills in 15 key STEM teaching areas.

MAY 2025

ASCA
The National Association of Elementary School Principals recently announced Lewisville ISD’s STEM Academy at Donald Elementary, one of only 47 elementary schools nationwide to be named a 20-25 School of Excellence Award winner. This award recognizes outstanding achievement by student councils in the areas of community service, student leadership, citizenship, and school spirit based on a completed application encompassing activities from an entire school year and this year, Donald StuCo was selected for its Green Team’s recycling efforts. Congratulations, Donald Stu-Co!

Texas PTA
Two students from LISD earned top state honors in this year’s Texas PTA Reflections Contest. From Castle Hills Elementary, Campbell Gonzales received the Overall Award of Excellence in Dance Choreography. From Shadow Ridge Middle School, Achyuth Narayanan earned the Overall Award of Excellence in Photography.

UIL Track and Field
Flower Mound High School's Alexandra Fox earned gold in the 1600 and Marcus High School’s Chase Johnson claimed gold in Pole Vault.

Sudler Shield
Marcus High School Band has been named a 2024 recipient of the prestigious John Philip Sousa Foundation Sudler Shield Award, which honors high school, youth, and international marching bands for world-class excellence. Marcus is one of only three scholastic marching bands in Texas to receive the honor this year—and one of just 10 schools ever to earn the Sudler Shield more than once. The band previously received the award in 2007.

Congressional Art
Flower Mound High School senior Macie McKie was named Grand Prize Winner for her oil painting “Wisdom and Prayers,” which will hang in the U.S. Capitol’s Cannon Tunnel for one year. And FMHS junior Selina Feng earned 1st Place for her oil painting “Generational Freedom,” to be displayed in Congressman Gill’s Capitol Hill office.

Scholastic Arts and Writing
LISD celebrates an outstanding group of creative students recognized in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards—the nation’s longest running program for young artists and writers. Seven LISD art students and two student writers received this top regional honor, which spans multiple states. A special shout out to Eliah Kolgushev from Flower Mound High School, who earned both a regional Gold Key and a national Silver Key.

VASE
Three LISD students earned the prestigious Visual Arts Scholastic Event Gold Seal Award— VASE is the Texas state visual arts recognition program presented by the Texas Art Education Association. Astrid Samrud from Hebron High School, along with Libbey Lewis and Azel Loyal from Hebron 9th Grade Campus, were recognized for artwork that demonstrated both originality and technical excellence. Their pieces will be featured in exhibitions across Texas, concluding with the Gold Seal Exhibition at the TAEA Fall Conference.

Journalism - UIL, TAJE, CSPA
Journalism students across LISD earned top honors in both state and national competitions, showcasing their talent, dedication, and storytelling excellence.

UIL Interscholastic League Press Conference: Hebron High School led the way with 3 first-place, 8 second-place, and 7 third-place awards. Lewisville High School earned 1 first-place, 1 second-place, and 4 third-place awards. Marcus High School earned 3 first-place, 2 second-place, and 1 third-place awards.

Texas Association of Journalism Educators: Hebron High School won 1 first-place, 2 second-place, and 2 third-place awards. Lewisville High School received 1 third-place award. In the Columbia Scholastic Press Association contest: Hebron students captured 3 first-place and 2 second-place awards. Lewisville students earned 1 first-place, 1 second-place, and 3 third-place awards. A special congratulations goes to Hebron students: Amani Niaz — who was named UIL’s Runner-Up for Video Producer of the Year. Krista Fleming — who was named UIL’s Online News Editor of the Year; TAJE’s High School Journalist of the Year; and a top-six finalist at the JEA National Convention.

DECA
Students from Flower Mound, Hebron, and Marcus High Schools earned top honors at the Texas DECA 2025 State Career Development Conference. In total, 35 LISD students qualified to compete at the National DECA Competition. At the national level, Flower Mound High School had two students place 3rd in the nation, and Marcus High School saw three students receive national medallions—and one team claimed the international championship title in Financial Literacy.

TAFE
Students from Flower Mound and Marcus High Schools earned top honors at the Texas Association of Future Educators’ annual Teach Tomorrow Summit. Together, the two campuses had nine students qualify for national competition—a remarkable achievement that reflects their hard work and dedication.

SkillsUSA
Students from TECC West achieved top placements at the 2025 SkillsUSA Texas Leadership and Skills Conference. Grady Best earned gold in Automotive Refinishing Carson Peterson earned silver in Collision Repair Hector Nevarez earned bronze in Automotive Damage Appraisal.

CTENT
TECC West’s Electrical Instructor JP Keyes was named the New Teacher of the Year by the Career and Technical Education of North Texas Association, he was also named a new teacher of the year finalist by the Career and Technology Association of Texas. This honor highlights Mr. Keyes’ exceptional impact in the classroom and his dedication to preparing students for success in the skilled trades.

Texas PTA
Garden Ridge, Liberty, and Prairie Trail Elementary PTAs have each earned the Platinum Voice for Every Child Award — the highest membership honor a local PTA can receive at the state level. This incredible achievement reflects their commitment to making sure that every child on their campus has a member and a voice representing them. 

APRIL 2025

UIL 6-A State Soccer Championship
Marcus High School’s girls’ soccer team had an incredible season, winning the 2025 UIL 6A Division II State Championship on April 12. Led by Coach Erin Smith, the team finished with a 19-4-3 record and was ranked 7th in the nation. They were District, Region I, and State Champions. In the playoffs, they outscored opponents 14-0 and didn’t allow a single goal in all six rounds. This is their third state title—and second in just three years.

MARCH 2025

Career and Technical Education District of Distinction
Lewisville ISD was named a Career and Technical Education District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas. This esteemed recognition celebrates exemplary leadership, innovation, and commitment to student success through high-quality CTE programs. The district's dedication to providing students with valuable skills and experiences aligns with our community's focus on workforce readiness.

FEBRUARY 2025

UIL 6-A State Wrestling Championship
Lewisville ISD had three student athletes earn top rankings in the U-I-L State Wrestling Tournament. From Flower Mound High School, wrestler Isabella Silva earned silver. And from Hebron High School, wrestler Annalisa Afrifa earned silver and Alex Barros earned bronze.

CREST Counseling Award
Forty-three Lewisville ISD schools received the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas award, which is an honor recognizing outstanding model counseling programs in Texas. Of the 43 LISD schools who were recognized by CREST, 41 of them have received the award previously. Elementary Schools - BB Owen, Bridlewood, Castle Hills, Central, Coyote Ridge, Degan, Ethridge, Heritage, Highland Village, Homestead, Independence, Indian Creek, Lewisville, McAuliffe, Memorial, Mill Street, Morningside, Peters Colony, Polser Prairie Trail, Timber Creek and Vickery. Middle Schools - Arbor Creek, Briarhill, Creek Valley, DeLay, Downing, Forestwood, Griffin, Hedrick, Huffines, Killian, McKamy and Shadow Ridge. High Schools and Specialty Campuses: Flower Mound, Hebron 9, Hebron, Harmon, Killough, Lewisville, Marcus 9, Marcus and Student Success Center.  

NOVEMBER 2024

UIL 6-A State Marching Band Championship
The success of Lewisville ISD marching bands continues on with three bands placing in the top half of the finals round at the 2024 6-A UIL State Marching Contest. The Flower Mound Marching Band earned third place and the bronze medal with their program entitled ‘Textures and Tones,’ and Hebron High School Marching Band earned the UIL state championship title and gold medal for their program entitled ‘Amorphous.’

​​​​​​UIL 6-A State Water Polo Championship
The Marcus High School Boys Water Polo team capped off an impressive season by earning the silver medal in their second appearance at the UIL 6-A State Water Polo Championship. Ranked first in Texas and third nationally by MaxPreps, the Marauders concluded their season with a remarkable 22 wins. Congratulations, Marcus!

UIL 6-A Cross Country Championship 
Flower Mound High School Girls Cross Country team continues to re-write record books with a dominating win at the UIL 6-A State Championship Meet to claim the state championship with a combined score of 47, becoming the first 6-A program in history with five straight titles. Congratulations to the back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back champions! 

OCTOBER 2024

National School of Character
McAuliffe Elementary was named a 2024 National School of Character. The national certification is the highest level of distinction bestowed by Character.org. Schools receiving this designation have demonstrated excellence in establishing a school culture that exemplifies and brings to life the 11 Principles Framework for Schools. To earn this distinction, schools undergo a rigorous application process and successfully pass two rounds of evaluation. All schools will be formally recognized at Character dot org’s forum this fall.

Apple Distinguished Schools
Hebron Valley, Hicks, Independence, Old Settlers and Polser Elementary schools, Marcus 9th Grade Campus and McKamy Middle School, earned an Apple Distinguished Schools designation. Thanks to the work of teachers and staff, LISD's Digital Learning and Technology teams, these schools join an esteemed group of 1,000 campuses worldwide to earn this honor. The Apple Distinguished School designation celebrates a culture of continuous innovation, and is an invitation-only honor extended to campuses where leaders, teachers and the extended community have a clear vision for how their technology-rich environments support learning goals.

SEPTEMBER 2024

Model PLC Schools
Flower Mound and Polser Elementary schools and Killian Middle School were recognized by Solution Tree for their success in raising student achievement due to the implementation of the Professional Learning Communities at Work  process. PLCs at Work are schools in which educators recognize the key to improve student learning is ongoing, job-embedded learning for the adults who serve students. Schools are recognized based on strict criteria, including commitment to and implementation of P-L-Cs at Work concepts, and clear evidence of improved student learning over a three-year period.

National PTA Schools of Excellence
Bluebonnet, Bridlewood, Ethridge, Garden Ridge, Hebron Valley, Heritage, Hicks, McAuliffe, and Peters Colony elementary schools; Arbor Creek, Durham and McKamy middle schools; and Marcus High School. The PTAs at these schools were recently named a National PTA School of Excellence.The school of excellence program was designed to open the lines of communication and critical thinking within school communities to make data-driven decisions that yield positive, long term results. The parent-teacher associations at these schools are committed to supporting students, teachers and their community, which ultimately ensures students have valuable learning experiences.

TEPSA Schools
The Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association announced that Donald, Forest Vista, Garden Ridge, Hicks, Memorial and Peters Colony elementary schools are recipients of the 2023-2024 Student Leadership Award. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding student leadership teams that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their school communities through their leadership and service.

AUGUST 2024

Educators Rising Conference Awards
Flower Mound and Marcus High Schools were honored to send students to the Educators Rising National Conference and Competition in Washington, D.C. Flower Mound’s Anna Schafer won 2nd place in Exploring Support Service Careers. Brooke Dasher and Jessica Kluthe (Clue-thee) won 2nd place in Elementary Interactive Bulletin Board. Marcus High School’s Samantha Evans and Callie Venter won first place blue ribbons in Interactive Bulletin Board. Molly Lehew and Reagan Williams won 2nd place in Interactive Bulletin Board.

Flower Mound High School Baseball
Flower Mound High School Baseball team had a remarkable season culminating in a journey to the state championship tournament, where they earned third place. The Jags, ranked 2nd in the state of Texas and 5th in the nation by Max Preps, finished their season with a record of 40 wins.
