LISD Career Out for Businesses

Wednesday, March 4 | 8:30-11:30 AM   

We are looking for companies in the DFW area to host junior and senior LISD students for an exciting one-day, three-hour job shadowing experience. Job shadowing for 2026 will be in-person and students will provide their own transportation to the job site.  This is a great opportunity to showcase your business, find potential summer workers or interns, shape the future workforce, and engage your employees with a volunteer opportunity.

Program Overview:

Host one or more students at your place of business for the entire 3 hours.

Time with students can be structured any way that works for your company.  Some ideas are listed below.

• Give a company overview (this can include a tour of your workplace either virtually or in-person)

• Share what a typical day looks like for one or more careers

• Incorporate actual work when possible

• Share the education background and specific classes that were important for your college major, degree or certificate

• Have open dialogue and Q&A time with students about your line of work

• Showcase one or more careers that are important to your business

• Tell students why you love what you do

Consider incorporating anything that will help students make informed career decisions while they are still in high school.

Prior to attending Career Out, our students will attend mandatory training on proper business conduct. Topics will include professional dress, appropriate business communication, use of technology, and proper conduct in a business/virtual environment.

How do companies participate?

Step 1: Registration has closed for 2026.

Step 2: One contact from each company needs to complete the LISD Background Check form found here.

Step 3: Begin thinking about what you want students to learn during job shadowing.  Invite other team members to help, if applicable.

Step 4: Check your email regularly - we will send details as the event gets closer, including optional business training dates to help you think through hosting students.

Step 5: You will receive your list of attendees on or before February 27.
