A Season of Gratitude: Reflections from Katherine Sells
As we enter this season of Fall and Thanksgiving, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings in my life, especially the opportunity to serve the Lewisville ISD community. Being a member of the Board of Trustees is more than a role for me; it’s a calling rooted in gratitude, purpose, and love for public education.
In 2016, I stepped forward to run for the Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees, driven by a deep desire to support the district that had nurtured my children and shaped our family’s journey. Since moving to Lewisville in 1989, this community has become my home in every sense of the word. I’ve watched my children grow up in LISD schools, and I’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of dedicated educators, engaged families, and strong leadership. Serving on the Board has allowed me to give back to the district that gave so much to my family.
I continue to serve because I believe in the promise of public education and the importance of standing up for every student. I’m thankful for the chance to work alongside passionate colleagues and community members who share a vision for excellence in education. Whether it’s through strategic planning, community engagement, or policy development, I’m proud to help shape a future where every student can thrive.
Even as the weather turns cooler, the fire I carry for public education continues to burn bright. It’s a flame fueled by hope, by service, and by the belief that every child deserves the very best we can offer. I believe that when we invest in our schools, we invest in the heart of our community—and that’s a responsibility I hold with deep reverence.
I’m also grateful for the opportunity to serve beyond the school district, the Texas Health Community Impact Board, where I help support initiatives that improve the well-being of our region, and with the Denton County Aggie Moms, where I connect with fellow parents to celebrate and support our students at Texas A&M. These roles remind me that community service takes many forms, and each one contributes to a stronger, more connected future.
This season reminds me that gratitude and service go hand in hand. I’m deeply thankful for the trust placed in me, and I remain committed to listening, learning, and leading with heart. Public education is one of our greatest gifts and I’m honored to play a part in protecting and strengthening it for generations to come.
As the leaves fall and families gather, may we all find moments to reflect, reconnect, and recommit to the values that unite us. Wishing you and your families a joyful Fall and Thanksgiving season filled with warmth, togetherness, and hope.
