Alumni Spotlight: Ashlyn Straw, MHS 2011

Alumni Spotlight: Ashlyn Straw, MHS 2011

They say home is where the heart is — and that couldn’t be more true for Lewisville ISD alum Ashlyn Straw.

After graduating from Marcus High School in 2011, Straw traveled south down I-35 to get her bachelor’s degree in English education from Baylor University. She wouldn’t be gone for long.  Straw returned to LISD in 2015 as a teacher at DeLay Middle School — a decision she says is one of the best she ever made.

“I have always loved the idea of teaching,” Straw said. “But working at DeLay ignited a passion.”

Her passion for serving the students at LISD continued to grow through her years in the classroom — ultimately leading her into a new role as a campus administrator.

“I took a leap of faith and started applying for assistant principal positions,” Straw said. “LHS Killough took a chance on a first-year administrator, and I am still there and learning from Stephanie Gore every day. Now, in 2026, I look around me and I see so many blessings.”

Family has always been close by during Straw’s tenure at LISD. While she learned the ropes as a first-year teacher, her mom was just a short drive away teaching at Garden Ridge Elementary, ready to help her every step of the way. Fast-forward five years, and her support circle grew even more when she met her husband, Jaxon, while working at Hedrick Middle School.

For Straw, family has played a critical role in her growth as an educator and a leader, but she says the word “family” does not just apply to her mom and her husband — it includes the colleagues who have supported her.

“I work at a campus where I am surrounded by the most amazing colleagues,” Straw said. “Ones that supported me as a new AP, celebrated me when I got married, and became a village around me when I was pregnant with my daughter. They truly are part of the family.”

Straw says she would not be the educator she is today without her LISD family, and she is excited to send her daughter to school in the district in just a few short years.
