Transfers

Dec. 1 - Feb. 13, 2026

The primary Transfer Window for the 2026-27 school year is Dec. 1 - Feb. 13. Any in-district or out-of-district families who do not request a transfer before the Feb. 13 deadline must wait until the second transfer window begins on May 1 to determine if their transfer request was approved. Elementary transfers will be reviewed and processed after internal staffing processes in Feb. and decisions will be sent out by April 17.

LISD will process additional transfer requests during a secondary transfer window May 1 - May 31.

Transfers may be requested by students residing in and out of LISD who want to attend a school other than the one zoned for their address.  The transfer application process is only open during designated windows.  School to school transfers for the current school year are not available during the school year.

Transfer Processing & Approvals

Approval depends on factors like space availability, attendance, discipline, and academic standing. Transfer appeals will be accepted and reviewed during the May 1 - May 31 window.

• Middle & High School transfers will be reviewed and processed with decisions sent out throughout the window.
• Elementary transfers will be reviewed and processed after internal staffing processes in Feb. and decisions will be sent out by April 17.

Who can apply?

• In-district families: Students who live within LISD boundaries and want a different LISD school.
• Out-of-district families: Students who live outside LISD boundaries but wish to attend an LISD school. New Student Enrollment begins on Jan. 5, and families can request a transfer after they complete New Student Enrollment forms.

How to Apply

1. Review transfer guidelines and policies.
2. Gather required documents (proof of residency, attendance/discipline records, etc.).
3. Apply:
   1. For Current Students: Submit online transfer requests through Skyward Family Access.
   2. For New Students: Complete New Student Enrollment forms beginning Jan. 5 and request a transfer during that process.

Transfer Guidelines & Criteria

LISD Board Policy FDA (Local) and FDB (Local): Transfers may be revoked if the student is in violation of transfer criteria (poor attendance, discipline, or academic performance), if the Superintendent determines that it is in the District's best interest for the student to attend school at the campus for which he or she is zoned; or the Superintendent determines at the conclusion of the school year that enrollment exceeds capacity

Transportation

School provided transportation is not offered to students attending school on a transfer.

Renewal & Revocation Information

• Students who live within LISD boundaries do not need to reapply for a transfer annually. 
• Students who live outside of LISD boundaries will need to apply for a transfer annually.
• Transfer students are subject to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules and local District guidelines. A student may not transfer to a different school for the primary purpose of participation in extracurricular activities. A student who participates in extracurricular activities must clearly indicate the intent to participate and the history of schools attended to assist in the determination of eligibility. Transfer students in grades 6-8 may participate in all activities. Athletics: In most cases transfer students in grades 9-12 can expect to be ineligible to participate in varsity level competitive athletics for a period of at least one year from the first date of attending the new campus. See Board Policy FDB (LOCAL). Transfer students who elect at a later time to reverse their transfer and return to the home campus will be ineligible for a period of one year from the date of first attending classes at the home school.

Do you live in LISD AND already have transfer? 
That transfer is approved to stay at the current campus and in the feeder pattern all the way through 12th grade and graduation. You do NOT need to ask for a new transfer unless you actually want to change schools or feeder patterns.  If you want to return to your zoned campus, please call 469-713-5206 for assistance.

Do you live outside of LISD AND already have a transfer?
