McAlpin, Erin
Hello!
I am a First grade teacher at Parkway Elementary, and I am very excited to begin my sixth year here at this amazingly inclusive and welcoming school. In the past I have taught Special Education, in both a self-contained Academic Life Skills class and as a Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) teacher, both at Parkway. I recieved my Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Early Childhood Education and Special Education at the University of North Texas, where I was lucky enough to be paired with LISD as a student teacher and immediately fell in love with the district after seeing how dedicated LISD was to help all of their students no matter the obstacle. I hope to continue to make my students feel loved and to love learning, and for the parents of my students to feel connected and a part of the team that will work their hardest to help their child succeed in life.
I am lucky enough to have grown up a military child living overseas (Go Navy!) in Italy, Belgium, and Japan, and currently my immediate family live in Nashville, Tennessee and Wimberley, Texas! I like to spend my breaks traveling overseas to explore new cultures and food. I like to incorporate other cultures and the idea of exploring the world with my students, and one of my favorite ways to do that is by reading books and using google maps to let students explore other ways of thinking as well as get a feel for what traveling the world feels like! I hope to get my masters in Art Therapy so that I can incorporate helping students express their imagination, feelings, and emotions in Special Education through art therapy, because I feel that art is one of the best hands-on ways to reach children and help them explore their own experiences in life.
I am very excited to start this school year and can't wait to meet you and your child!
