Mrs. Montes-Torres

My name is Sandra Montes-Torres.  I have been in education for 20 years.  I've had the priviledge to teach K-8 and currently serve our campus as the Language Acquisition Specialist. I received my Bachelors degree from Tarleton State University and my teacher certification in ESL/Bilingual education from the University of Texas in Arlington.  I have been married for nineteen years and have three teenage children. In our spare time we enjoy taking trips to our second home in Destin, Florida.

Dual Language
The goal of the Elementary Dual Language program is to provide a research based, instructional model for second language acquisition to native Spanish speaking students who are acquiring English as a second language. LISD also offers Dual Language opportunities to Non-Native Spanish speaking students to learn Spanish as a Second Language with their native Spanish speaking peers. The One-Way and Two-Way Dual Language Models promote additive bilingualism and biliteracy and establishes high expectations for achievement for all students in both English and Spanish.

ESL (English as a Second Language)

Is a program that provides intensive English instruction to students who primarily speak or hear another language at home. Teachers who are certified to teach ESL use special materials and methods to teach those students according to their individual needs. The goal of the program is to help students master the English language so they can be successful in their classes and take part in the total school program.
