Tech App:
In this full-year course, students will learn the Google Drive Platform and file management, technology-related terms, concepts, and data input strategies for various software programs. Students will also effectively identify task requirements, and gather information to create project-based assignments.
Tech Education:
In this full-year course. Through the study of keyboarding skills and technology applications foundations, including technology-related
terms, concepts, and data input strategies, students strengthen skills and learn to make informed
decisions about technologies and their applications. The efficient acquisition of information includes the
identification of task requirements; the plan for using search strategies; and the use of technology to access,
analyze, and evaluate the acquired information. By using technology as a tool that supports the work of
individuals and groups in solving problems, students will select the technology appropriate for the task,
synthesize knowledge, create a solution, and evaluate the results. Students communicate information in
different formats and to diverse audiences
Computer Literacy Advanced:
In this full-year course. Through the study of Computer Literacy, students will learn
technology-related terms, concepts, and data input strategies. Students will be required
to make informed decisions about technologies and their applications. They will
effectively identify task requirements, employ research strategies and gather information.
Furthermore, they will use a variety of technology appropriate to the task to access and
analyze the acquired information then develop solutions and evaluate the results.
Students will then present their findings in different formats to diverse audiences.
Video Graphics & Animation:
This 18-week course is designed to introduce students to the world of digital media. The three major
areas of study will include video production and editing, graphics production and image editing with
digital photography, and creation of original animation projects. Students will learn the basics of
lighting techniques, retouching digital photos, creating fashion layouts, and image animation, for
example. Students will be able to preview upcoming opportunities in high school career center
programs included in the media arts department.
In addition. This course will further develop computer and technology skills with students who already possess adequate basic computer skills. Topics of study include basic composition
layouts, elements, and principles of basic design, rule of thirds, angles in photography and
composing through a lens, video production/editing, graphic design/animation, and career
planning for success. Students will learn technology-related terms, concepts, and
software manipulation strategies. Students will be required to make informed decisions
about technologies and their applications. They will effectively identify task requirements
and use a variety of technologies appropriate to the task in order to develop the final
product. They will also take an in-depth look at what it takes to be successful in these
industries.
Web Design:
Students develop web pages using programs such as Office, DreamWeaver, and Google Docs to
understand basic HTML and good web design
Designing & Building Model Bridges, Cars, & Rockets:
This 18-week Technology Education course is a project-based and collaborative opportunity to explore different engineering fields. Modules will include an introduction to engineering, engineering design, mechanical engineering/simple machines, environmental engineering/solar and wind energy/weather, aeronautical engineering/flight, civil engineering/towers and bridges, electrical engineering, and biomedical engineering. Projects will range from using common household items for creative problem-solving to computer simulations for construction activities. This semester-long course is combined with Forensics: CSI & YOU to make a year-long course.
Forensics: CSI & YOU:
Forensics: CSI and You is an 18-week survey course that introduces students to forensics and the technology in use today, and helps students differentiate the facts from the fiction seen on TV. Both criminal justice and government service components are included. This semester-long course is combined with Designing & Building Model Bridges, Cars, & Rockets to make a year-long course.
Robotics:
In this 18 week course, the basic concepts of robotics are covered as well as the science behind them. Foundations, History, Basic Robots Creation, and Challenge are the four units of study covered in this semester-long course. An investigation into careers related to the field is included in the Foundations unit. This course is combined with Gaming to make a year-long course.
Gaming:
This is an 18-week course in which the learner covers four major units of study: Foundations, Game Creation Basics 1, Game Creation Basics 2 and Careers. Software and web-based programs are used to introduce students to basic computer game creating and career fields within the industry. This semester-long course is combined with Robotics to make a year-long course.
Art 1:
This is the foundation for all other art courses. No prior drawing skills are necessary. The elements and the principles of design are emphasized through a variety of projects and problems in both two- dimensional and three- dimensional design, drawing, painting, and printmaking. The course includes a survey of historical and cultural developments in art. Students develop skills in observing, problem-solving, manipulating art media, and evaluating art works. Preparation of a portfolio is required. One full credit (18 weeks) must be earned in Art 1 for entry into a Level 2 or higher art course. Instruction and content are delivered primarily during class.
