Hello!

My name is John Klassen, and I am the new speech and debate coach at Lewisville HS.

This is my 6th year of teaching. Before becoming a Fighting Farmer, I started a speech and debate program at Trinity School in Midland in 2017.  My students were very successful. I have had debate teams advance to out-rounds at the NSDA National Tournament; a National Finalist in a speech event in 2020; and numerous NSDA National and TFA State qualifiers.

Prior to starting a teaching career, I was a trial lawyer for 26 years, including more than 10 years as the chief federal prosecutor in West Texas.  The sole reason I became a lawyer was because a teacher named Connie Fahey asked me when I was a sophomore to join the debate team.   I loved it!

I have a Bachelor's Degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Tulsa, and a Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law. 

My wife, Steph, and I met in law school and we have been married for 30 years. We have two wonderful daughters: Katherine, 22, and Mary, 20.
