We are so excited to have you here at Lillie J. Jackson this school year. My name is Mrs. Bridges and I am the specials teacher for our school’s STEAM lab.
Each week your child’s class will get to experience activities that integrate the 5 subjects of STEAM-science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Students will learn what it’s like to be an engineer through hands-on exploration and play. Students will be encouraged to problem-solve on their own and understand that mistakes are okay! They will have lots of chances to take risks and discover what their minds can create. My goal is for our students to become independent thinkers and to realize they can accomplish anything they set their mind to!
STEAM can also be developed at home so feel free to join in on the fun! Ask your child to count items while helping fold laundry, have them draw a picture of a cake you baked together, talk about sinking and floating toys during bath time, build block towers together and compare their differences, take walks and point out flowers, birds, and bugs. Encourage your child’s natural interest in exploring the wonders of the world. You’ll be surprised how much you use these skills every day!
Feel free to reach out if you ever have questions and I wish you and your child a wonderful school year together!
