Mrs. Cecilia Dixon
Orchestra Director
Growing up in Flower Mound TX, Mrs. Dixon joined her middle school Orchestra in 6th grade, and has been involved in Orchestra ever since. On her 11th birthday her dad's gift to her was her very first violin. Inspired to be a music educator especially by her school orchestra director, Mrs. Dixon earned her Bachelor of Music from The University of North Texas. She studied under Karrell Johnson and Dr. Rosita Goza, specializing in string pedagogy.
After student teaching in Denton ISD schools, Mrs. Dixon taught at Joe Wilson Intermediate, West Intermediate, and Bray Elementary Schools in Cedar Hill ISD. She later continued her teaching journey at Gene Pike Middle School in Northwest ISD where she was recognized with the Northwest ISD Profile of an Educator award. Under her direction, Mrs. Dixon's Varsity Orchestra was awarded Commended Winner in the 2014 Mark of Excellence National Competition. Her groups have earned consistent Superior ratings, 'Best in Class', 'Most Outstanding Orchestra', and 'Outstanding Section' awards in all five string sections at music festivals across Texas. Mrs. Dixon was also recognized with The Gene Pike Panther award from the Pike MS student body as the school's most influential teacher.
Mrs. Dixon instills a firm belief that music is co-curricular and encourages the physical, social, and emotional well-being of her students. She has a "go big or go home" leadership style and a student-led teaching philosophy. Mrs. Dixon is married to her wonderful husband and has a four-year-old daughter whose best friend is her 70lb Labrador.
