Special Education Parent Corner

  • The Lewisville Independent School District provides evaluations for students suspected of having a disability between the ages of 3 and 21.

If you suspect your child has a disability, please contact the campus your child would attend if school aged and ask to speak with the Assessment Specialist or Speech Pathologist to inititate this process.

For further information please contact the Special Education office at 469-713-5203.

House Bill 216 (TEC 29.004): Effective 9/1/13, the State of Texas established due dates for initial evaluations requested in the public schools.

    • LISD must respond to a parent request for evaluation within 15 school days from receipt of the written request for evaluation by setting up an informed consent meeting or by formally refusing to complete the evaluation (in writing).
    • If informed consent for a parent-requested evaluation is not obtained within 15 school days from the receipt of the written request for evaluation, the evaluation will be cancelled and the parent will need to request a new evaluation.
    • LISD has 45 school days from the date of written informed consent for evaluation to complete the Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE).
    • LISD has 30 calendar days from the date of the FIE to hold the initial ARD/IEP meeting.
