LISD Profile: Lewisville Learning Center Principal Angie Deaton
Check out the profile about first-year Lewisville Learning Center Principal Angie Deaton, who discusses her favorite thing about Lewisville ISD; what she enjoys doing in her spare time; and something most people do not know about her. Deaton has worked in the education field for 17 years – 15 in LISD.
Lewisville ISD (LISD): What has the experience been like thus far as the new Lewisville Learning Center Principal?
Angie Deaton (AD): It has been wonderful! I have enjoyed getting to know students and staff members. I am so happy to be working with them all.
LISD: What is your favorite thing about being a part of LISD?
AD: The leadership and growth opportunities the district offers.
LISD: Growing up, was there an educator who specifically impacted your life?
AD: Charles Stephens. He was my musical director when I was a singer at Angelina College. He taught me a lot about myself – as a person and as a performer. He taught me the power of believing in people and their potential, even when they may not believe in themselves.
LISD: If you could be any storybook character, who would you be? Why?
AD: I would like to be Mary Poppins because I always loved that musical and Julie Andrews! Who wouldn’t want to be able to be “practically perfect in every way?”
LISD: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time (i.e. hobbies, etc.)?
AD: Right now my spare time is pretty much all spent working on doctoral work for Dallas Baptist University. I also love spending time with family and friends, and singing in my church choir.
LISD: What is one thing that most would not know about you?
AD: I was a singer in high school and college, and was fortunate to sing on Carnival Cruise Line ships and at Disney World. I was also a DJ for a country radio station in Georgia.
LISD: What has been your greatest success or favorite moment since entering the education field?
AD: The moment a student that had to overcome many challenges walked across the stage to receive their diploma. They came to thank me for never giving up on them and for helping them to achieve their dream. I just smiled and said that we were all on that journey together and thanked them for letting me a part of it. They said they wanted to be a principal like me someday, so they could help people too. That was a humbling and rewarding thing to hear. I am very grateful for the students I get to work with each day.
