Help provide for families across district during holiday season.
Angels are nominated by LISD school counselors and Communities In Schools of North Texas social workers, who compile a list of each child’s “needs” and “wants.”
“The reason I believe Angel Tree continues to be successful is the fact that the gifts go directly to the children of LISD,” LHS Student Activities Director Allison Stamey said. “It unites the district and teaches numerous life lessons in the process, especially giving back.”
Added LHS senior and LISD Liaison Officer Juan Martinez: “The LISD Angel Tree is necessary because you don’t really realize how special this time is for everyone until you participate. The look on people’s faces helps you see how much this means to our community. It’s probably the best thing we do as a Student Council all year.”
Along with Martinez, spearheading the event is LHS Student Body Community Connections Officer Tori King; Student Body Vice President Siera Kiplinger; Student Body Treasurer Patrick DeVaney; Community Service Chairman Chigozia Onwu; Community Service Chairman Kalina Kaftajian; Junior Class Parliamentarian Sunem Quistian; and Junior Class Community Connections Officer Claire Marrone.
The group of student leaders has arranged for the entire Student Council to wrap and deliver the presents to the school of each particular angel before the district lets out for holiday break on Dec. 22. If needed, Stamey and LHS staff members will hand-deliver gifts to homes of families who are not able to make it to their child’s school for pick-up. By the morning of Dec. 24, all presents will be in the angels’ homes.
To see the 600-plus angels available and adopt, click HERE (instructions are on the first tab of the spreadsheet; angels highlighted in yellow have already been adopted). The deadline to drop off your labeled, unwrapped gifts is Monday, Dec. 5.
If you are unable to adopt an angel but would like to help, gift cards and wrapping paper may be donated or checks can be made payable to “LHS ABC.”
