Student
Council

The Student Council
here at Wellington is a great group of strong leaders. They
are sponsored by Mrs. Mayo and Mrs. Berg and Miss Heinze.
They are the ones who run the safety patrol here at school
to
make
sure that students are safe and respectful of others. They
also plan our spirit days like crazy sock day or weird hair
day. When we have community food drives to help CCA, it is
student council who makes sure that huge task runs smoothly.
Student Council officers come from our fourth and fifth grade
classes. They make awesome speeches on the school tv in front
of everybody to get elected to their jobs. That takes courage!
Way to go student
council members.

WCAT
News--Media Team

One team after announcements.
|
WCAT
news is our morning announcement crew. These energetic kids
get up early to be here to practice every morning.
The sponsors are Mrs. Bundy and Mrs. McKee. They always tell us what's
going on around school, what is the menu, what is the weather, and
any announcements that need to be made. Students who have entered special
events or done something really special also get to go on announcements.
The WCAT news team rotates out every week with new anchors to present
to the school. Any 5th grader who tries out is eligible to participate.

Geography Bee
The Geography Bee is sponsored by Mr. Hanson, our Social Studies
Advocate. The students who enter this contest really must know
a lot about reading maps, graphs, and charts, as well as about
regions, cultures, rivers, and oceans. The geography bee is very
exciting to watch, and the audience never fails to learn something
cool from the interesting questions asked at the bee.
Congratulations, guys!

Lego Robotics
Club

Lego Robotics Club is targeted at fifth grade students. There are
currently 2 Fall Rotations and 2 Spring Rotations with up to 12 students
per rotation.
We have six CRX units. That is the large block that holds the batteries
and the computer chip. We put two students per rotation as partners
on each robot. Because it is about teamwork and partnership, only
those students who are willing to work together should apply for
this club. Lego Robotics is about getting a task, building a robot
that will accomplish the task, and programming it to make it do what
you want it to do. It is a lot of fun, but it is also quite challenging.
We do go to some competitions throughout the year, and the students
who attend those meets are decided by the performance of their robots
on the tasks during the rotations.

for some more pictures of our lego club.

RED RIBBON WEEK |
Red
Ribbon Week is for drug awarenesss. We strive to give our kids
other options than to get involved with the world of drug abuse.
One event that encourages them is the arrival of the DEA helicopter
every year. The DEA agents speak to the kids about their job and
experiences to try to make an impact toward good decisions. This
event is sponsored by our PTA.

Science Night at Wellington is always fun! We have guest

This is one of the quilts made by our fifth graders to honor
the fallen servicemen from LISD.
This quilt was presented to the parents of Ryan McCauley by
students representing our school.
We took it to them on the Friday before Memorial Day.
Mr.and
Mrs. McCauley
were very touched, and the students were blessed
to have a part in honoring a veteran.
