A Word From Our Principal...

Welcome back!!!

The building looks great and teachers have painstakingly put rooms together so they provide a welcoming and safe environment for our students. Many parents have asked for security doors in our schools and our gracious school board has provided these high tech doors at Old Settlers this summer to our main entrance! Procedures are the same- volunteers will sign in at the front office as usual and then be buzzed into the main building. The front desk has been reconfigured for better customer service and facilitation of the doors. The doors will be unlocked until 8AM for students to get to class. The SOV/cafeteria door will remain open until 8AM for children to enter from that area just like last year. Per LISD policy the front door will continue to be the only unlocked door during the school day. We have also added chairs in the entryway for parent comfort!!
Lunch and dismissal will continue to be the areas where staff, parents and students will have to show much patience and work together, as we have over 745 students this year.
As you know, dismissal at 3:00 is crazy around here! Dismissal procedures are the same and we want to get in the routine as quickly as possible. Please do not use your cell phone while driving on school grounds and drive slowly through our traffic lines for the protection of our little ones. We have many teachers on duty after school each day to provide for the safety of your child and to facilitate dismissal.
I look forward to meeting your child and working with you to provide a world class education for your STAR. The OSE teachers and staff have worked very hard this summer on curriculum and have returned full of ideas to create a positive learning environment for our students.
Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you and I anticipate another wonderful school year at Old Settlers.

Enjoy the 2009-2010 school year - it will pass quickly.
