The art education of our students assures that every child grows visually and becomes more perceptive as lessons develop, in a safe, secure environment. Based on a personal belief that every child is an artist, the curriculum encompasses many artistic avenues including but not limited to: The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills-TEKS; Discipline Based Approach to curriculum; critical thinking and problem solving; knowledge of art terms; tools and design concepts; acquisition of skill with practice and opportunity; use of a wide variety of approaches in the making of art and opportunity; knowledge of art history, artist, cultures, world and environment. Aesthetics, art criticism, art history and art production are the cornerstones to art education. Another component that is stressed at Old Settlers is joy, experiencing it while we are artistically engaged in a quality art education program!
