Attendance Office
To notify the school of a student's absence please call 972-350-4503.

Please note the following addition to the attendance policies of Killough LHS-North.

All North students who return from an absence without a parent or medical note will receive an unexcused admit and a lunch detention. If the student brings a note to the attendance office the next school day, the lunch detention could be excused. If a student receives an unexcused admit because the absence is not excusable per LISD policy, the student will receive a lunch tardy detention that MUST be served. Repeat unexcused absences could result in PASS assignments or truancy procedures being initiated.

Highlights of Student Attendance Policies
The following is a list of “highlights” concerning the attendance guidelines. It is important that both students and parents/guardians review the attendance section of the Student/Parent Handbook.

State Law requires every student to attend each class 90 percent of the time to earn credit for that course. Attendance is taken 4 times each day.

  • Whether a student is out for only one class period, or a full day, they are not allowed back into class without first obtaining an admit slip . These are given at the Attendance Office before 8:35 a.m. in the morning . Students must have an admit slip, whether their absence is excused or unexcused. If a student is sent to the office to receive an admit slip after the bell rings for first period, they will be given a tardy detention .
  • Students are allowed four (4) “parent note” excused absences per 9-week grading period. Each day of a multiple day absence is counted. Once a student's absences exceed the four (4) days, only a “doctor's note” will excuse the absence . Parent notes can be written in the student's home language.
  • Truancy violations occur after a student has reached three (3) unexcused absences.
  • Parent calls to the attendance office the morning of an absence can substitute for a “parent note”. Pre-planned family absences should be pre-approved by your assistant principal.
  • Anytime that a student leaves campus during the school day, the student and their parent/guardian must sign out through the Attendance Office . If the parent/guardian is picking the student up for an appointment, they may call ahead or send a note that morning, so that the Attendance Office can have the student brought down to the office at the proper time. No student is released during the school day without a parent/guardian signing them out.
  • If a student arrives late to school (prior to 9 a.m.) they are to report to the Tardy Table located in the Main Hallway, and receive a lunch detention and pass to first period. If the student has a “parent note” explaining their tardy, or they are returning from a medical appointment (and have the proper documentation ), they must sign in at the Attendance Office to receive an admit to first period (no lunch detention will be assigned).
  • Students who are absent from a class are given one school day to make up the assignments for each day missed. On the third day of a multiple absence, make-up work can be requested. Teachers have 24 hours to gather the assignments and make them available for pick-up in the Main Office by 4:00 p.m. the following day.
  • If you are a student who is applying for their driver's license during the school year, and you have excessive absences, you will not qualify for your TEA Attendance Verification form. This form is required for everyone under the age of 18. Students must attend school 90% of the time – this is a law – not a rule!
