Welcome to the Nurse's Page at Lillie J. Jackson Early Childhood Center. My job is to help parents keep their children healthy. Good health, good food, and a good night's sleep are important for your child's education.

IMMUNIZATIONS
As your child’s school nurse, I am responsible for making sure that all students are current on their immunizations. The requirements for students starting school are listed on the LISD Website. Just go to www.lisd.net and click on departments, after that click on Student Health Services. There is a box to click for immunization information.
SCREENINGS
I am also responsible for vision and hearing screening on every child at LJJECC. I will screen in the fall semester and if a child does not pass the screening, I will notify the parents and a request for a medical referral will be made. We will also be measuring height and weight during the school year.
REASONS TO STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL
I do want all our students to have a high attendance rate. But if your child is sick, please keep them at home! Reasons to keep your child at home include:
- TOO ILL: Any student too ill or uncomfortable to participate in learning activities should stay home.
- FEVER over 100.4 (persistent fever).
- VOMITING FROM ILLNESS (persistent vomiting but not spitting up).
- PERSISTENT DIARRHEA
- PAIN that is persistent, unexplained, severe, with red eyes, with swollen, deformed body parts.
- PURULENT (infected) DRAINAGE that cannot be safely managed with bandages.
- WOUNDS with red, hot, swollen area, or red streaks or if wound size or location concerns you.
- SERIOUS INJURIES
- DENTAL pain or bleeding.
- RED EYES (not allergic itchy eyes) when there is drainage, infection, or pain
- SEIZURES that are unusual for the student, first known seizure, or back to back seizures.
- ASTHMA that does not respond to usual treatments
- LICE signs of active infestation (live bugs)
- RINGWORM or IMPETIGO (if sores cannot be covered, multiple lesions, especially around the eyes)
- ITCHING that is uncontrolled & interferes with class (see doctor)
- UNEXPLAINED RASHES
CALL ME!
If you are concerned that your child may have a contagious condition, please call me at 972-350-4416 before school and discuss your child with me. I might be able to help you decide whether to bring your child to school, keep them at home, or go to the doctor.
FEVER
If your child has a fever greater than 100.4, they must stay home until they have been fever-free without using Tylenol or Motrin for 24 hours. If your child has been to the doctor and given antibiotics and antivirals, they must be on the medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
If your child needs to take medicine at school, please call me at 972-350-4416 and I will send home the paperwork necessary for this to happen.
