Absences- When a student is absent from school, a parent shall notify the School (note or phone call) of the reason for the absence. This notification must be made within three school days for the student to be considered for an excused absence. It is the student's responsibility to bring the signed note from home (in the event a parent call has not been made) on the day the student returns from an absence. The student is to present the note to the attendance clerk in the office before school begins. The attendance clerk will issue the student an admit slip listing the student's name, date(s) of the absence(s), and if the absence is excused or unexcused.

It is the student's responsibility to bring the admit slip to each class in which they were absent and present this slip to the teacher at the beginning of class. The teacher wills sign the admit and return it to the student to be used the following period, and the teacher will note the status of the absence(excused or unexcused)in their records.

If a student forgets to bring a signed parent note on the day following an absence, the student will be issued an unexcused absence admit slip and the student will call the parent from the office to remind them to send a note with him on the following day. A student may bring a signed parent note on any of the first three days following an absence and be eligible to have the absence considered excused. A student loses the opportunity to change an unexcused absence to an excused absence by bringing a signed parent note after three school days.

A student with an unexcused absence has the opportunity to do the make up work, but will receive no credit for that work. Students who repeatedly fail to report to the attendance office for their admit before school begins, or who repeatedly lose their admit slip during the day will find themselves missing instructional time and may be subject to disciplinary action.

Excused Absences- In order for an absence to be considered excused, a student must present a note from the parent, or a call from the parent to the attendance office, giving the reason for the absence and the date of absence. Parent notes or phone calls are expected within three days after the student returns to school from the absence. Unexcused absences will result in the student receiving zero credit for each class period during the unexcused time period. The Lewisville ISD does not participate in Take Your Son or Daughter to work days. Students who miss school to participate in such a program will receive an unexcused absence.
