Lakeview Middle School opened its doors to students in the fall of 1989 with 540 students enrolled. The school opened under the direction of principal, Ben Swearingen. Lakeview served students in The Colony, Carrollton, and parts of Lewisville in the 1989-90 school year.

Lakeview’s student enrollment peaked during the 1994-1995 school year with 920 students.In the fall of 1995 Arbor Creek Middle School opened in Carrollton. Mr. Swearingen opened Arbor Creek and many Lakeview teachers and Lakeview students (those living in Carrollton) left Lakeview and were part of that first class at Arbor Creek. Dr. Steve Nauman became principal of Lakeview after serving as an assistant principal at Lakeview for the school’s first five years. Beginning with the 1995-1996 school year, Lakeview began to serve students in the Camey attendance zone which had previously been zoned to Griffin Middle School. With the opening of Arbor Creek, Lakeview began to serve only students in The Colony.In 19 years, Lakeview has had only two principals, Mr. Swearingen and Dr. Nauman. In those same 19 years Lakeview has also experienced a low turnover in assistant principals with only six APs in the school’s history – Steve Nauman, Sherry Wagner, Terri Kirkman, Bob Chisam, Barbara Hamric, and Sandra Lee.

 

 

 

 

 

 

From 1995 to 2002, Lakeview’s enrollment was steady in the mid-800s. The demographics of Lakeview remained relatively unchanged through the period of time. Beginning in the fall of 2002, Lakeview began experiencing a change in demographics with an increase in the economically disadvantaged category. This increase led to the designation of Lakeview as a Title I Targeted Assistance campus for the 2004-2005 school year. Lakeview remained Targeted Assistance for the following year before becoming a Title I School Wide campus beginning in 2006-2007.Lakeview’s enrollment in 2007-2008 is in the low 800s. Lakeview has 65 full time teachers.
