Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
2009-2010
Welcome to Independence Elementary! Please check the arrival and dismissal procedures for the first day of school and the rest of the year.
ARRIVAL
On August 24, 2009 doors will open at 7:30 AM for all students. Students who are eligible may eat breakfast in the cafeteria starting at 7:30 AM. In the morning you may use one of two options listed below.
DISMISSAL: Dismissal starts at 3:00 PM. We use an assigned number pick up system for students who are car riders. Parents of these students will receive a laminated number card during parent orientation meeting. This number card should be placed on your car’s dashboard (passenger side). After school, your child will be waiting for you in the cafeteria. As you drive towards the front of the school, a teacher will use a walkie talkie and call for the student that has the matching number. Your child will then be waiting for you by the flag pole. We will make an effort to keep siblings together and to make sure your child gets home in a safe, secure manner.

Parking in lot

Park in front of the school and walk your child through the cross walk and enter through the main entrance west of area A.
For the first two weeks of school you may walk your child to his/her class.
Tardies will not be counted the first week of school. |
Drive up through the circle drive leading to the front of the main entrance (Areas A & B). Have your number(s)
On your dashboard. Pick up child by the flagpole. Please do not get out of your car.
These numbers will also be used for dismissal during after-school tutoring. |
Dropping off Student

Drop off your child at the curb area in front of the school. The teacher on duty will signal for your child to get out of your car. (Area A). These students will wait in the gym on the first day and every morning. For the First week of school, a teacher will walk the students to their classroom. |

 Bus Rider

If your child is arriving by bus, the bus will drop off at the entrance south of Area A. A teacher will walk the students to their class.
This parking lot is for teachers and buses. |
Bus riders will load the bus through the south entrance of Area C. This parking lot is only for teachers and buses. |

Please use the same arrival procedure that is listed above. |
Please do not leave your car parked and unattended by the fire lane. Otherwise, use the same arrival procedure that is listed above. |
