About Mrs. Regina Barnes
Mrs. Barnes is happy to serve as dyslexia program teacher at Highland Village Elementary. Her previous teaching experience has been in the district as a 3rd grade teacher and special education teacher. She has a bachelor's degree in special education from Texas Woman's University and a master’s degree in education with specialization in dyslexia from Southern Methodist University. She has completed certification as an Academic Language Therapist. http://www.altaread.org/
Mrs. Barnes lives in Denton with her husband, Jeffrey Barnes. Jeffrey keeps her entertained! (He is a two time Grammy winner who plays saxophone, clarinet, flute, and harmonica with Brave Combo.) Besides listening to live music, Mrs. Barnes' interests include travel, modern art, contemporary literature, art deco architecture and design, multicultural studies, and lifelong learning.

About the MTA Program
Multi-sensory Teaching Approach (MTA) is a comprehensive program for acquiring skills in reading, spelling, alphabet, dictionary use, and cursive handwriting. It involves students in active discovery learning through visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic senses. MTA is based on Orton-Gillingham and Alphabetic Phonics structure and techniques.
