| What is the mission statement of Thomas O. Hicks Elementary School? | Our Mission Statement: We, the faculty and staff of Thomas O. Hicks Elementary, dedicate ourselves to provide an educational foundation that nurtures integrity and fosters a love of learning. |
| What is required for enrollment? | Birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, withdrawal from previous school, and proof of local residency. |
| How many students are enrolled at THES? | Thomas O. Hicks Elementary currently has 412 students enrolled. The average class size is 20 students. |
| What are the areas that are bussed? | Students must live at least 2 miles from the school to be eligible for bus transportation. For more information, please contact Durham Transportation at (972) 221-4557. |
| What can you tell me about the curriculum? | Our curriculum follows the guidelines set forth by TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). There is a committee that adopts the curriculum each year for our district. |
| Do we have an active volunteer program on our campus? | YES, most definitely! PTA has a very active volunteer program in the classroom, office, and provides many services to our school. Many parents give generously of their time. We feel this is an important factor in your child's education. |
| Is breakfast available? | Yes, breakfast is served from 7:30 to 7:50 each morning. |
| Do we serve hot lunches? | Yes, our cafeteria serves a nutritionally balanced hot lunch each day. Lunch ($1.95) and breakfast ($1.00) tickets are available to purchase any school morning in the cafeteria in any dollar amount. Free/reduced applications are available in the school office. |
| Do we allow visitors at lunchtime? | We would be happy to have visitors at lunch time. Please sign in and have your child include you in his or her morning lunch count, if eating a school lunch. |
| How do we check out students for appointments? | Any students leaving campus during the school day MUST be signed out in the office. Only the person(s) listed on the enrollment card would be able to sign your child out. For the protection of your child, a valid drivers license will be requested when signing out students. |
| Do we have a nurse on campus? | Yes, we have a full time R.N. at Thomas O. Hicks Elementary. |
| At what age can a child start school? | Students must be five years of age by September 1st of the current year in order to begin school. |
| What are the DROP OFF/PICK UP procedures? | For Morning Student Drop Off: Buses and Day Care vans drop students off in the FRONT of the building that faces Compass Drive. Car riders are dropped off on the NORTH SIDE of the building that faces Ridgeland. Use the first or third driveway to enter the parking lot and exit out the middle. For After School Student Pick Up: Buses and day care vans pick up students in the front of the building that faces Compass Drive. Car riders are picked up on the north side of the building that faces Ridgeland. Kindergarten and first grade students exit the building/campus at the first driveway. Second, third, fourth, and fifth grade students exit the building/campus at the third driveway. Parents with children in multiple grades need to arrange with the child and their child's teacher where they will be picked up after school. Walkers exit with their class Crosswalk guards are available at three intersections to help students and parents arrive and depart from school safely. These intersections are Compass and Lakehill, Compass and Ridgeland, and Ridgeland and Mira Vista. Please

at their desks by the 8:00 am bell. |
| If a child is late for school, what is the procedure? | Any student arriving after the 8:00 bell must report to the office to receive a tardy slip in order to be admitted to class. Students arriving after 9:30 will be counted absent. |
